Storm just blew through. Some stellar force of nature @ Sunny Cove & Secrets. Santa Cruz. Oh yeah, Merry Christmas or whatever floats your holiday boat.

And a big version.
I’m on vacation for a bit. Somewhere warmer than this and with less sharks.

Back in a week… Back. No dolphins, but lots of turtles. Oh yeah, no sharks, either.
Time: 8am
Tide: High going to low
Crew: The Brit
Size: 5-7 foot swells. 3-4 wave sets. The occassional rogue wave outside at Suicide Peak.
Vibe: Three non-local short boarderss. Not crowded.
Ride: Wasn’t expecting much as the surf report called for mediocre waves. Turned out to be classic Rockview waves. Rights that just went on and on and on. As the tide dropped, waves over the rising reef would hollow out quickly creating large drops. Classic Rockview session.
Time: 8am
Tide: Still way low, both reefs exposed, rising
Crew: The Dad, The Brit
Size: 9-10 foot swells. Long period. More inconsistent as the tide rose.
Vibe: Longboarders who can’t surf. Lots of spongers at Wind’n’Sea.
Ride: This was the tail end of the swell which meant biggers waves, but fewer of them. We had to go way outside to catch the bigger stuff. The Brit discovered a fast left into the rocks which is a first for Rockview — couldn’t catch it — IE: REEF. Long rights to be had, but as the tide rose and filled the bay, the big sets flattened out.
Time: 8am
Tide: Way Low, both reefs exposed, rising
Crew: The Dad
Size: Boardz says: Head, Lola says: 9-10 feet
Vibe: Way mellow, two short boarders way outside catching absolutely nothing.
Ride: Lowlow tide pushed all the rides further outside. The reflections from the exposed reefs made for lots bumps and generally crappiness on the inside. Outside rights were good. Late launches were rewarded with good drops, but it was next to impossible to get a really long ride as the channel was closing out.
